Are you Healthy?

What would be a discussion about health if we did not agree on what we are speaking about. Webster’s defines health as

the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit.

I agree with the definition in concept, but how do we know if we are “sound”? Webster’s definition of sound means free from special defect or injury. This would imply that if you have a defect, and we all have some to an extent as humans, thus by definition, we are not healthy.

Some will define healthy as the absence of disease, but that is difficult to comprehend or understand and not necessarily accurate as one may have an early disease state that is not showing clinical signs or symptoms and thus, we don’t know that we have it.

My working definition therefore is more practical and tangible. Health is

the overall state of feeling well both mentally and physically.

This does not imply we are without defect, but rather that we are comfortable within our bodies and can function without bodily limitations. It means that you have energy and don’t feel sluggish, you are motivated and not depressed, you don’t have chronic aches, etc. essentially an overall sense of wellbeing. This is how we are meant to be and how most of us lived most of our lives. Yes, growing up you had occasional setbacks with bumps and bruises, colds and brief minor illnesses, but overall were enjoying life and not noticing that your body was getting in the way. This changes as we get older, and we have accumulated our lifestyles and behaviors, they start to manifest themselves in us by impacting our health. You feël more persistent body aches, you require a cup of coffee to get going in the morning, you are not able to be as active as you would like to be, etc.

My goal with these nuggets is to help you improve your health from my experience and research that I have gleaned over the past 15 years as I have taken control of and improved my health.

Rewind to about fifteen years ago, I was a middle aged, burned out, non active person with hypertension, early arthritis, and high cholesterol to name a few of my problems. Today I am an older active energetic person without the above and did this without surgery or medications. I am not saying that you can be cured without surgery or medication, based on where you are, however I am saying that you can improve your health and hopefully end up reducing the number of medications that you take no matter what stage you are in.
